Event: Day Workshop: A New Harmony: the Spirit, the Earth, and the Human Soul.

Facilitators: Ali Newell and John Philip Newell.
Venue: Mull Room, The Gillis Centre, 100 Strathearn Road, Edinburgh, EH9 1BB.
Date: Saturday 26 May 2012.
Time: Registration: 9.30am-10am. Workshop: 10am-5pm.
Event Description: As never before in the history of humanity, we are becoming aware of our inter-relatedness. We are beginning to comprehend that what we do to other species is what we do to ourselves. We are beginning to perceive that what we do to other nations and peoples is what we do to our own soul. The question is whether we will choose to translate this emerging consciousness into transformative action. Celtic Spirituality offers unique insights and practices for this work of transformation in our lives and world.

The Saturday workshop will be led by John Philip Newell and Ali Newell, internationally acclaimed for their work in Celtic theology and spiritual practice. Formerly Wardens of Iona Abbey, they have a passion for peace in the world and a fresh vision for harmony between the great spiritual traditions of humanity. They have played a leading role in the re-birthing of creation spirituality for today. Philip’s best known titles include his introduction to Celtic Spirituality, Listening for the Heartbeat of God, and his recent visionary work, A New Harmony: the Spirit, the Earth, and the Human Soul. And Ali is celebrated for her imaginative embodiment of these themes in movement, music, and art. The workshop will provide a combination of presentation, reflection, and practice.

Event: Day Workshop: ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ and ‘The Marriage of Heaven and Earth’:  An exploration, honouring some of the themes of both Easter and the ancient Celtic festival of Beltaine, of the dissolving of duality into Oneness.

Facilitator: Sister Fionntulach, Head of the Céile Dé Order, a Celtic Christian Holy Order based in Scotland.
Venue: Mull Room, The Gillis Centre, 100 Strathearn Road, Edinburgh, EH9 1BB.
Date: Sunday 27 May 2012.
Time: Registration: 9.30am-10am. Workshop: 10am-5pm.
Event Description: An exploration, honouring some of the themes of both Easter and the ancient Celtic festival of Beltaine, of the dissolving of duality into Oneness.

The earliest Gaelic Christians happily dovetailed their spirituality with some parts of their native pre-Christian lore. It is clear that in many ways they viewed their Druidic past as a sort of ‘Celtic Old Testament.’

This spirit of inclusivity is one of the hallmarks of the Céile Dé tradition as it is practiced today. In this gathering, Sister Fionntulach will share some of the sacred prayers, chants, lore and practices of the Céile Dé tradition. It is hoped that this day of prayerful exploration of the teachings inherent in sacred story – a medium especially loved in Celtic culture – will both introduce the Céile Dé tradition to some and also open many to wider ways of exploring their own chosen spiritual path, whether it be Christian, Pagan or any of the other ways that, ultimately, lead us all to the Sacred Union with the Great Mystery who is beyond naming.

Sister Fionntulach belongs to the Céili Dé (The Servants or Spouses of God), a Celtic Christian Holy Order based in Scotland. She took her vows in 1991. Since 2004 she has been Head of the Order.

Today, she is a teacher of the tradition and an Anam Chara (‘Soul Friend’ or Spiritual Guide). Her life is divided between leading a contemplative life, serving her community and giving teachings to the growing number of people, both in Europe and in the USA, who feel called to walk the Céile Dé Path in these times.

Sister Fionn, as most people call her, describes the tradition as “a glorious blend of Celtic reverence for Nature, disciplined practice and Christ-consciousness - the transformative power of Love.” See: www.ceilede.co.uk
